The Degas Exhibit

I ventured down to the Denver Art Museum this afternoon to see the Degas Exhibit.  The painter's name is pronounced day-GAW.  (In Iowa we would pronounce it DEE-gass and get laughed at by the cognoscenti.)

I cut through Civic Center park to get to the Denver Art Museum, treading lightly past the homeless and/or druggies.  Most of these -- mostly men, with a few pathetic women -- were listless in the warmth of the sunny afternoon.

I walked through an arch and discovered some statuary that made me nervous.  The dragon was especially intimidating.

The sight of some bright tulips restored my equilibrium.

The Degas exhibit gave a comprehensive look at Degas's body of work and also gave examples from the work of his major influences.

Here are pictures I liked, starting with my favorite, At the Cafe.

This last one, Four Dancers on Stage, is very famous; but I am bothered by the baboon faces on the middle two dancers.

The exhibit also had a great many Degas paintings of nude women taking a bath, drying their hair, drying their feet, and so forth.  One might not find such paintings terribly interesting, but no one can deny that Degas's models were a bunch of very clean women.
